For most students, work experience doesn’t necessarily come from working a traditional 9-5 job. A lot of what you can put into your profile as relevant, concrete work experience can be any internships you have completed, any committees you have been involved in, any part-time jobs you have done, and any volunteer work as well!

A neat little trick you can do is to view your profile as if you are a company that doesn’t know you. Are you a good fit for the company and are you able to assess that? Try and use examples of past work or personal passion projects that add relevance and value to your profile. Freelancing is usually very specific, so keep that in mind and try to associate key skills and experiences you've had with these specific jobs. For example, if a company is looking for a person to manage their social media and you have previous experience with handling tags for social media posts, be sure to let prospective employers know! Be sure not to undervalue any strengths that you might find irrelevant. Let the companies know you play sports at a high level or that you are in the local band. Add a profile summary. We work with a lot of startups and they will look at your attitude as a person.

What drives you? Don’t be afraid to highlight yourself as a person. Also, please be aware that there should be no CV uploads! Add your skills and experiences to build up your persona. Your profile is what companies will view as an extended greeting card, so make sure to make them feel welcome and encouraged!
