5 New Year's Resolutions for Successful Businesses

After an unprecedented and tumultuous year, it’s time to turn over a new leaf and start 2021 with renewed energy. At Minite we have been working hard on our New Year’s Resolutions. Have you thought about your 2021 goals yet for your business? Here are a few great resolutions to start off 2021 with a bang.

1. Set Attainable Goals

Setting clear, realistic goals is key. Sharing a common vision among the team strongly enhances collaboration. A great way to structure goals is by using the S.M.A.R.T. method: every goal should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bound. A SMART goal could be to increase your website traffic by 30% in the next three months.

2. Put Milestones into Place

Milestones help keep track of your company’s success and progress. It is a crucial tool to put into practice all of your business plans. Your team will show extra motivation when a Milestone’s deadline is coming up, or think of innovative ways to achieve it. They might come up with new partnership ideas or identify new channels to market the product. And remember to celebrate achieved Milestones! It’s important to take a minute to acknowledge the results achieved, and then gather the forces for the next Milestone.

3. Empower your team

Your team is your most valuable asset, and recognition matters. Empowering your team will lead to them to feel comfortable with openly communicating with you. And what is the best way to empower? Well, let’s take advice from Marc Randolph, creator of the most admired company culture, Netflix’s. Give your employees “freedom” and “responsibility”. Let them operate freely and give them ownership of their results. In other words, treat them like adults.

4. Promote your business regularly and consistently

What sets you apart from your competitors are your marketing and advertising efforts. Given that all of us operate in a space that is more often than not highly competitive, we have to always be on our toes by staying proactive and continue investing resources in promoting our business in creative ways.

Effectively using promoting methods helps build awareness and trust among existing and potential customers. New tools and platforms are being created every day, and staying ahead of the curve isn’t easy. Did you know that 78% of salespeople outsell their competitors by using social media, yet 1 out of every 2 small businesses is not on social media? Which one are you?

Another great opportunity to improve your company’s online presence is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Search engines make up 70.6% of all web traffic and 3.5 billion searches are performed every day. Optimizing your visibility for search algorithms applied by Google or other platforms could increase your chances of being discovered by new customers. 5. Learn to Delegate

Lastly: delegation matters. Think about what activities directly contribute to your core business, and what activities do not. What skills do you have in-house that you can leverage? What skills are you currently missing that others can help you with? It’s always a tradeoff between executing something in-house or delegating it to someone who can perform a Task more efficiently. They often only need half the time to deliver twice the result!
