As a basketball player has to train their skill and technique on the court, so do they outside the court, whether at the gym or focusing on the correct mindset. Fuel & Move provides that off-court support to lawyers, so that they can build a culture and capability that allows everyone to be at their best. “We call it a career gym for lawyers. And just like in a gym, you can choose what works best for the team - from the level of personalisation and human-to-human contact to the level of intensity and frequency.” Parul Patel, a lawyer turned entrepreneur and founder of Fuel & Move, perfectly encapsulates the essence of her company with this phrase.
Through the power of networking, Parul was introduced to two of her contacts who were also starting their own businesses. One of those contacts mentioned that she had hired a High-Flyer and that it was going really well. So, in Parul’s own words, “when I was looking for support, Minite.works was right up there in the shortlist of places to look.”
Preferring to leave the social media marketing aspect of business to outsourcing, Parul was drawn to the win-win mentality of supporting student talent while also getting the work done. “There is a creativity and openness that High-Flyers offer that more established businesses sometimes miss out on.” In finding flexibility to hire based on business needs, coupled with the opportunity to invest into the next generation, as well as the sheer quality of student freelancers Minite offered, the choice to go Yellow was inevitable. “The hardest thing,” Parul muses, “was choosing only one person from the host of incredible talent available. Fortunately Minite’s personalized support helped to find the right match.”
Working 100% remotely, Uejaa is responsible for managing two Instagram accounts and growing the audience, creating visual storytelling content for LinkedIn and collaborating to work out month-by-month strategies, analyzing what’s working and what’s not. “Uejaa, is incredibly self-motivated and has a willing attitude. She wants to do a good job and I want her to succeed and have a positive experience of work life.” She is also responsible for outreach to potential allies for Parul’s YouTube talk show Live Laugh Law, which is all about “inspiring, challenging and encouraging people to challenge their own assumptions and explore the less well-known possibilities a career in law offers, no matter what stage of their careers they find themselves.” Her out-of-the-box thinking offers Fuel & Move a different perspective and the opportunity of diversity of thought and ideas that it generates.

“Different employers, whether big corporations or startups, all offer different experiences.” Most times it may not be a linear journey. Now more than ever before, students can look forward to a career that doesn’t have to be a job for life. Parul highlights the importance of taking time to reflect and choose for oneself, and know that it is ok to do different things. “That’s not to say you should job hop early in your career. We all know that this rings the alarm bells for employers, questioning commitment and capability.” Instead, she advocates that students or graduates stop at the end of each year to reflect on what they have done and what they have learned. “What you can do to be at your best and shine is a powerful career-lifestyle tool.”
When one door closes, do not give up. Rather, learn from it and look for the opportunity that learning or the closed door creates. “I applied to the same law firm for 3 years before they caved and said yes.” The key is to be creative and to keep on going.
For those aspiring High-Flyers who do not have a concrete direction yet, the advice is to fearlessly go for something that brings you joy. “It won’t be easy but it will be a fun adventure. It may not be forever and that’s ok. It’s your life. Live it your way, and with the financial and lifestyle benefits of that choice.” And what better way to kickstart your search than to sign up to Minite, for a host of freelance job opportunities each week!
